They say you know when you’ve found the one, theres a sparkle in your eyes, a healthy glow to the skin, and people can’t resist looking at you, wishing they had what you had- I’m talking about finding the perfect Dark lipstick of course. There’s thee perfect Plum shade for everyone, including you!
Autumns here which for beauty addicts is an exciting time- return of the Plum lip. It’s inevitable that you’re going to purchase a Berry shade, would it be Autumn if you didn’t? Like any lip colour, Plum too can be tricky to find the perfect match for you! There’s Pink undertones, Blue, Red and Brown, with all these tones going on it can get confusing! If you’re not a Makeup expert it can be hard to establish what suits you best. The easiest way to discover what hue will suit you is to determine your skin tone, and then you’re on the road to sporting those deep ,crushed velvet lips you’ve always adored…
Figuring out your skin tone..
Cool Skin tone veins will appear Blueish or Purple.
Warm undertones veins will appear Greenish.
Undecidable? Then congratulations you have a neutral undertone- meaning you can wear any shade you want and look ah-mazing!
If you have a cool undertone or light eyes then Pink Plums are the perfect match!
E.L.F Touch of Berry (£6.00) If you’re looking for a Berry budget bargain then head over to E.L.F. The satin finish lipstick gives the lips a stained berry look with a slight sheen, the product can be layered easily meaning you can create how heavily pigmented you’d like your lips to look.
MAC- Captive (£15.50) Captive does exactly what it says on the tube (it captivates male or female victims) when applied to a cool skinned beauty. Captive a is highly pigmented deep ‘Pinkish’ Plum with a Satin finish, that can easily be transformed into a Matte finish when blotted and loose powder is applied, and if you like the smell of cake then you’ll love this lippie!
Plum lipsticks that are almost Brown is the only statment piece that you need this season. Brown Plums suit both warm and cool tones ,when applied with the right hue.
Clarins Rouge Eclat- 012 Hot Chocolate (£17.50) Hot Chocolate is a medium hued Plum with a Brown undertone (it does not look nude in reality), this shade is a more subtle Plum that is wearable day and evening with a satin finish. The super hydrating Lipstick is enriched with Vitamin E to give your lips an overall plumper appearance.
MAC- Film Noir (£15.50) If you’re looking for a rich lipstick to make jaws drop, then you need to brave this luscious dark lipstick. This is my absolute favourite shade of Plum! Film Noir is highly pigmented, it has a Satin finish and glides onto the lips.
Deep Red Plums.
If you have a warm undertone then deep Burgundy shades will look delicious on your lips.
Lancome -L’Absolu Rouge 131 (£23.50) Lancome’s deep shade of Burgundy is that shade you can’t stop looking at once it’s on ,the creamy, intense, high shine lipstick is perfect for AW16 High shine lip trend, and a night at your favourite Wine bar.
MAC-Babes and Balls (£15.50) Once swiped across the lips appears as a deep intensive Burgundy with a matte finish. Babes and Balls paired with a feline flick and structured feathered brows will make the perfect statement this season.
To master wearing berry shades I’d recommend teaming a dark lip with a warm blush or bronzer ,a gentle highlight, and bare or bronzed eyes with natural lashes. Avoid dark eye makeup, dramatic false lashes and heavy blusher or contour to dodge looking like a Pantomime villain.
To ensure your dark lips look precise apply concealer around the edges of your lips ,ensure to blend the concealer slightly. For extra staying power use a matching shade of Plum lip liner under the lipstick ; dab Lipcote over your perfect shade so your lipstick will stay on all night or day long..
